A German military transport aircraft C-130 was targeted in a fireworks attack at the Celle airbase in Lower Saxony. According to reports, shortly after takeoff, unidentified individuals fired pyrotechnics at the aircraft.

Despite the scare, the plane was undamaged, and the pilots immediately alerted air traffic controllers. The incident occurred around noon last Friday, and Bundeswehr stated that such attacks are extremely rare, though pilots are sometimes blinded by lasers.

Local police and the Bundeswehr have launched an investigation, searching the area with explosive-detection dogs but have found no evidence so far. The case has been filed as dangerous interference with air traffic, and there is suspicion that the attack was intentional, as the fireworks fired resembled New Year’s rockets.

This is the first attack on Bundeswehr military equipment this year, but it is not the only recent incident involving the German army. In August, military vehicles stationed in Kassel were destroyed in an arson attack, with losses estimated at around $175,500. Police are investigating whether there was direct sabotage, and the case has been referred to the State Security Department.
